Item locks

Item locks are designed to prevent item data from being inadvertently over-written. When a user requests or edits tracking data, the Tracker Products system automatically locks that data from being simultaneously accessed by other users.

Occasionally, items remain locked even after a data request has been completed. This may be caused by a browser crashing or closing before the system has successfully unlocked the item. In such instances, system administrators can manually unlock the data.

Item locks

This screen shot shows a request being made to check out five items in a case. As you can see, Items one and two are locked. This could mean one of two things:

  1. Data related to the item has been requested or the item is currently being modified by another user, in which case the item will unlock as soon as the user has completed editing the item's data.
  2. The item lock is still in place from a previous data request, requiring action from a system administrator.

Determining lock status

Hold your mouse over the lock icon. The resulting message will display the originator of the lock, along with the date and time of the lock. If the time displayed is recent (within the last thirty minutes), it is probably a temporary lock. If the time displayed is older, it is likely that a system administrator will need to manually unlock the item.

Removing an item lock

Only administrators and site administrators can remove item locks.

1. Click the Tools drop-down menu and select Item locks.

2. Locate the item lock in question and check the box next to it.

3. Click the Unlock button.
