Working with PDA devices
PDA functionality overview
A PDA scanner and signature capture device can be utilized with Tracker Products software, allowing the user to be mobile while performing item transactions. The functions performed on the PDA device are essentially the same functions found in the Tracker Products software product.
The PDA scanner improves speed and efficiency by allowing you to scan bar codes on location without having to transport the items to a workstation or document numbers by hand.
Using the bar code scanner to perform transactions is not only faster than manually typing corresponding item numbers, but also more accurate - reducing the likelihood of human error. Bar code scanners will not accidentally record incorrect numbers.
Installation and configuration
Before attempting to use your PDA device, make sure that it has been properly configured. The PDA will not function properly unless it has been setup correctly. Please read the PDA device install guide before proceeding.
Sync often
Sync the PDA device often. Though it will hold up to a million transactions prior to requiring a sync, unforseen errors may cause you to lose data stored on the device. We recommend performing a sync after completing each batch of transactions.
Data import
Prior to using your PDA device, all items in your storage room will need to be imported into your tracking system. There are two ways to accomplish this:
- Enter each of your items individually into the system using the case, person and item entry process.
- Perform a mass item import using previously recorded data (Contact the Tracker Products support team for more information).
Location labels
Prior to performing transactions with a PDA device, each of your storage locations and sub-locations will need to have a bar code label printed and affixed to them.
